Report

Inter Baku of Azerbaijan won the CIS and Baltic Commonwealth Champions Cup in 2011, defeating Shaktyar Donetsk 6-5 on penalties in the Final after a 0-0 draw. Aiden McGeady, a Republic of Ireland International played for Spartak Moscow from 2010-2014, and although the team did not qualify for the Cup they were eligible to play in it.

About

The CIS and Baltic Commonwealth Champions Cup replaced the old USSR League in 1992, with Independent Nations forming the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The CIS and Baltic Commonwealth Champions Cup is like the UEFA Champions League for the CIS, and has been held annually until 2011, In 2012 it was replaced by a CIS Youth Nations Cup.

Landsdowne Bhoys, undoubtedly named after Landsdowne Road (the Home of Irish Soccer) and Celtic FC (Bhoys is their nickname) won the Werner Fricker Cup in 2019, the Premier US Amateur Soccer Cup in the United States of America. First established in 1999, the Werner Fricker Cup continues the tradition of US Ameteur Cups dating back to the late 19th Century.

After defeating Fort Wayne (Indiana) in the Semi-Finals 6-0 they overcame ASC New Stars from Houston in Texas 1-0 in the Final. ASC New Stars had won 2-0 against Yinz United of Maryland in the Semi-Finals.

Based in Yonkers, NY, the Landsdowne Bhoys won 5-0 in the Final against Motagua NOLA, with goals scored by Francois Navarro, Daryl Kavanagh, Sean Kelly, Skele Sylvester and Jean Voltaire. In the Semi-Finals they had defeated Sporting Michigan 3-0 and Motagua had beaten Quinta Elemento 3-2.

Major League Soccer (USA & Canada) and Liga MX (Mexico) Champions played the first Cameones Cup – a single game between the two Champions – in 2018, with Tigres UANL defeating Toronto FC 3-1 in the Final. The following year Atlanta United FC triumphed 3-2 over Club America of Mexico – only the second time an MLS side has defeated a Mexican sidein a Major North American or CONCACAF Final.

The eight team International Champions Cup was won in 2017 by FC barcelona, as the Catalan side defeated Juventus 2-1, Manchester United 1-0 and Real Madrid 3-2 to finish in first on 9 points. Manchester City finished second with two wins and a loss, and AS Roma came third, winning their last two after losing to Paris St. Germain in the opening fixture on penalties.

Penalties decided the outcome of three games, including Manchester United’s win over Real Madrid, which helped them finish fourth. Juventus lost the other game which was decided by spot kicks, the final game of the tournament versus AS Roma, as they finished fifth. Tottenham Hotspur won their opening match 4-2 over Paris St. Germain, but only finished sixth after losing to AS Roma and Manchester City. rounding out the last two places were Paris St. Germain with one penalties victory over AS Roma, and in last place Real Madrid, with just the one point from a penalty loss to Manchester United.

The International Champions Cup is a prestigious Club Soccer Competition played throughout North America during the European Soccer offseason, and in the middle of the North American Soccer Season. It is the latest in a tradition stretching back to the 1960.

Dundee United won the first Challenge Cupto feature teams from outside Scotland in 2016-17 with a 2-1 victory over St. Mirren. The following year Inverness Caledonian Thistle won 1-0 against Dumbarton in the Final and in 2018-19 Ross County defeated the firstnon-Scottish side to reach the Final, by defeating Connah’s Quay Nomads from Wales 3-1 in the Final. The 2019-20 Final between Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Raith Rovers was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic.

The Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup is an Association Football (Soccer) which includes teams from Scottish Football League, Scottish Premier Football League U21s, Highland Football League, Lowland Football League, English National League, Welsh Premier League, the Northern Ireland Football League and the League of Ireland. It was originally from 1990-91 the Scottish Challenge Cup before incorporating teams from other leagues in the Atlantic Isles from 2016-17 onwards.

Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup 2019-20 [Reference: 2-6]

League of Ireland and Northern Ireland Football League clubs Waterford, Bohemians, Glentoran and Ballymena United joined the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup at the third Round Stage in 2020-21, with Waterford defeating Heart of Midlothian U21 3-1, Bohemians losing 2-3 to Airdrieonians, Glentoran winning confortably at Formartine United 3-0, and Ballymena United losing 0-1 t home to Rangers U21.

In Round 4 both surviving Irish teams were knocked out, with Waterford losing 3-2 to Stenhousemuir and Glenavon losing 3-1 to Raith Rovers. The Final between Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Raith Rovers was cancelled.

The Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup is a Association Football (Soccer) which includes teams from Scottish Football League, Scottish Premier Football League U21s, Highland Football League, Lowland Football League, English National League, Welsh Premier League, the Northern Ireland Football League and the League of Ireland.
