Report

Colombia won the Marlboro International Soccer Tournament in Los Angeles, California in February 1990, defeating Guadalajara of Mexico 1-0 in the Final. USSR took third with a 2-1 win over Costa Rica.

About the Marlboro / US Cups

The Marlboro Cups were a series of International Soccer Tournaments held in Los Angeles and Miami, Florida in the lead up to the USA ’94 World Cup being held in the Country. They were later just named Joe Robbie Cup (after the stadium) or simply US Cup.

Report

Anderlecht of Belgium won the Maspalomas International Soccer Tournament in Las Palmas, Canary Islands in January 1990. The Tournament was a four-team tournament featuring SV Hamburg of Germany, Malmo FF of Sweden and Rotor Volgograd of the USSR. Anderlecht beat SV Hamburg 1-0 in the Final.

Report

Paraguay won the Baqueron Cup which they hosted in Asuncion in September 1988. The four team tournament featured fellow South Americans Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay and was won with a 3-1 victory over Uruguay in the Final. Ecuador took third with a penalties win over Chile.

Report

Norway won the Rothmans International Soccer Tournament in Malta in 1990. The Scandinavians defeated South Korea 3-2 in the opening match and then drew 1-1 with hosts Malta. South Korea won the third and final match but it was not enough as Norway took the Title on 3 Points.

Benfica, AC Milan and Juventus each embarked on a 3-game preseason tour of North America in June 1991. Portugal’s Benfica won a three-team tournament involving AC Milan and a Canadian All-Stars team. Juventus lost two matches against Central American opposition in Club Leon (Mexico) and Luis Angel Firpo (El Salvador) after drawing with USA who then also drew with AC Milan.
