Report

Series 1-5 28 March-26 April 2021

Athlone Town and Shelbourne were the early pacesetters in the SSE Airtricity League First Division in 2021. Athlone had won four of their first five matches and Shelbourne three with both teams undefeated. Also undefeated were UCD and new team from Limerick, Treaty United who had both won two of their five matches. Cabinteely and Cobh Ramblers were in mid-table while still seeking a win were Bray Wanderers, Galway United and Wexford FC, with Wexford still pointless. Cork City had three points from one win and four losses, below Bray (4 draws) and Galway (3 draws).

Series 6 30 April – 1 May 2021

Athlone Town lost their first match of the season, 1-2 at home to Cabinteely, but still held top spot as Shelbourne could only draw 2-2 at home to Treaty United who remained in fourth. UCD leapfrogged Shelbourne into second with a 6-0 win at Wexford FC. Cabinteely kept touch of pace at the top with that win at Athlone while Galway United’s 4-0 win away to Cobh Ramblers saw them jump two places into sixth. Cobh dropped down below both Galway and Bray Wanderers following that defeat and Bray’s 0-0 draw at home to Cork City. Wexford FC remained pointless at the foot of the table.
