Series Recaps

Series 1-12 (4 March 2023-27 May 2023)

After 12 rounds the two South Dublin County teams, Peamount United FC from Newcastle and Shamrock Rovers FC from Tallaght were one and two in the SSE Airitricity League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division table on 28 and 27 points respectively. Peamount United’s one loss had come at home (1-4) to third-placed Shelbourne FC in Series 5. Shamrock Rovers remained undefeated but with three draws. Northside rivals Shelbourne FC and Bohemian FC were in third and fourth on 22 points each. Galway United were the top provincial team, lying in sixth on 19 points, while Athlone Town on the the river Shannon were seventh on 16 points, separated from Wexford Youths WFC on goal difference. The drop from the South Leinster team to eighth-placed DLR Waves from Dún-Laoghaire-Rathdown in Dublin was a huge 7 points with Limerick’s Treaty United FC a further three points back in ninth spot. Connacht’s Sligo Rovers were in tenth on 3 points and Cork City, the second Munster team in the league were on a single point. [References: 1-2]

Series 16-18 (19 August – 9 September 2023)

Following a six-week break for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia, the FAI SSE Airtricity League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division resumed on 19 August 2023. Three good wins for Peamount United FC of Newcastle, County South Dublin, left them nine points clear at the top of the table on 43 points. A 1-0 victory at home to Bohemians was followed by a 3-0 win at DLR Waves FC and a 5-0 victory over Cork City FC. Peamount’s nearest challengers, both on 34 points with a game in hand, were Shelbourne FC and Shamrock Rovers FC. Shels picked up a 3-1 win at Treaty United FC before a 2-1 defeat of Athlone Town FC at home and then a bye week. Shamrock Rovers FC had a bye week in Series 16 on 19 August before defeating both Cork City FC and Sligo Rovers FC by a 4-0 scoreline. [References: 1-2]

Series 19 (30 September 2023)

A goal in either half from Pearl Slattery and Kerri Letmon gave Shelbourne a 2-0 victory at DLR Waves. [References: 1-2] Substitute Paula McGrory scored two late goals to seal a 4-1 win for Sligo Rovers FC at home to Bohemian FC. Lynn Craven had put Bohs back in the match midway through the second half after two first half strikes by Keri Loughrey and Sarah Kiernan. The win was Sligo’s second of the season. [References: 1-3]
