Report

Seychelles deservedly won the Indian Ocean Games Soccer Tournament in 2011 on home soil. Having started slowly with a 0-0 draw with Comoros, they went on to defeat Mauritius 2-1 and Maldives 5-1 thus winning Group A. They then defeated Reunion 2-1 in the Semi-Finals before needing penalties to again defeat Mauritius in the Final. Reunion took third with a 1-0 win over Mayotte. Madagascar completed the line-up.

About the Indian Ocean Games

The Indian Ocean Games take place every four years in a single location. It is a Multi-Sport Games along the lines of the Olympic Games and includes a Soccer Tournament which has been played since 1979. Ireland has cultural links to Mauritius through immigration from the Indian Ocean Island.
